‘and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.’ – Ephesians 1:19–20
Do you truly understand the power that accompanied the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, toward us who believe?
In his prayer, Paul emphasized the vitality of the Holy Spirit “the “Spirit of wisdom” over every believer’s life, so that we may fully know God, understand the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance for us, and now the power He has handed back to us again. This is only excluded for believers.
So, what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe?
1. Salvation
When we believe in Jesus, we receive everlasting life. Scripture assures us:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24).
All who put their faith in Jesus receive eternal life
2. Authority
When we believe in Jesus, the devil no longer has power over us. Jesus declared: “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18). This means you have authority to resist, rebuke, and bind the enemy.
The disciples testified with joy: “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name!” (Luke 10:17).
We are no longer subject to the enemy! the enemy is subject to us through Christ. Jesus gave us authority to trample them and to overcome their schemes (Luke 10:19).
3. Power
When we believe in Jesus, we receive power to live and exercise miracles, signs, and wonders become possible through those who trust and put faith in Him. Jesus promised: “Whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these he will do” (John 14:12).
4. Access to God
When we believe in Jesus, our relationship with God is fully restored. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
We have been given the right to call Him Abba, Father (Galatians 4:6). Through Christ, we can boldly approach the throne of grace with confidence to obtain mercy (Hebrews 4:16). By His blood, we have been brought near (Ephesians 2:13). No longer distant, but adopted as God’s children once again.
All of these; salvation, authority, power, and access to God are expressions of the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe. These gifts belong to everyone who places their faith in Christ. For when Jesus rose from the grave, He conquered death, buried sin, and restored everything the enemy had stolen: eternal life, dominion, power, and our relationship with our Father.
And even more, Jesus sent His Spirit to dwell within us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in God’s Word, to understand His will, and He gaves us strength and courage as we fulfill His purpose. He comforts us, guides us, and reminds us daily of the wonderful works of God in our lives.
So I ask you today, what else do you need, when Christ lives in you?
